Notable projects

Sailfish Technical Consulting’s team brings decades of hands-on experience delivering technically challenging projects across the energy and infrastructure sectors. Below are highlights from some of our most notable work, demonstrating our ability to solve complex engineering problems with precision, safety, and innovation.

Nuclear

Evolutionary Power Reactor (EPR)

Sailfish engineers supported the U.S. design certification and early detailed design of the EPR nuclear power plant, including Seismic Category I structural design, finite-element modeling, and licensing documentation under 10 CFR Part 52. Our team also contributed to Calvert Cliffs Unit 3, developing site-specific seismic and intake-structure designs and supporting site grading and permitting.

Generation mPower Small Modular Reactor (SMR)

For one of the first SMR projects, Sailfish engineers developed the deeply embedded Seismic Category I nuclear island structure housing two below-grade containment vessels.
Work included layout studies, conceptual analyses, structural sizing, and constructability reviews advancing an innovative generation of modular nuclear design.

Thermal power
imgi_3_Steam turbine generator foundation under construction.png

Sailfish personnel have supported complex thermal power projects for world-class EPCs, contributing to the design of boiler buildings, turbine and compressor foundations, feed systems, and air-cooled condensers.

We prepared structural simulations, calculations, and drawings to meet strict safety and performance standards, while providing independent design reviews and field engineering support during construction. At operating plants, we’ve resolved vibration and foundation cracking issues, ensuring continued reliability and uptime.

Modular Steam Turbine Generator Foundations

Partnering with a leading EPC, Sailfish helped shorten construction schedules for turbine-generator foundations through modular steel-composite design. Our engineers performed finite-element and vibration analyses, collaborating on detailed fabrication plans to ensure both efficiency and compliance

Renewal

imgi_18_Solar Tower_edited.jpg

Our engineers played a key role in the design of a solar thermal plant in California, including a specialty tower structure supporting the central receiver that collects focused solar energy from heliostat mirrors.

The design required advanced modeling for thermal and wind effects.

We also contributed to the design of a 250 MW photovoltaic facility, where value-engineered solutions significantly reduced fabrication and installation costs while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Hydrogen infrastructure

Ultra-Heavy-Duty Hydrogen Refueling System (South Africa)

To help a mining client decarbonize its haul-truck fleet, Sailfish led the development of an ultra-heavy-duty hydrogen refueling system capable of record refueling speeds. We managed scope, schedule, and budget, designed the facility layout, and ensured safety and reliability through successful design reviews.

Light-Duty Station Compressor Vibration (San Francisco, CA)

Following commissioning of a hydrogen refueling station, Sailfish diagnosed and corrected structural vibrations affecting nearby buildings by analyzing soil–structure interaction and implementing targeted ground modifications.

High-Capacity Hydrogen Tube Trailer

For a client pioneering Type IV composite storage vessels, Sailfish provided technical oversight and project management—covering product requirements, regulatory review, design, testing, and supply chain coordination.

Hydrogen Station Site Evaluations

Sailfish evaluated existing gasoline stations for integration of hydrogen dispensing systems, optimizing equipment layout, traffic flow, and NFPA 2 code compliance for safe, efficient conversion.
